Prior to , the few isolated earth sheltered houses in the United States had been built for primarily aesthetic reasons. Since then, due to the greater awareness of energy conservation and the environment, the number of earth sheltered houses has increased very rapidly. Despite the sizable increase in interest and awareness of the earth sheltered housing option, however, housing starts for this type of structure are still only a tiny fraction of all housing starts. In examining the future of earth sheltered housing, two key questions are raised: Does earth sheltered construction offer sufficient net advantages in relation to other types of housing to sustain a widespread continued increase in its use? Are there legal, regulatory or financing restraints which will make this a difficult option to pursue and hence only sought by the determined home owner/builder? This study discusses these issues in order to determine whether earth sheltered housing use is likely to continue to expand substantially, and whether such expansion is being hindered by unnecessary restraints. If there are such restraints it must be determined whether governmental actions can and should ease these restraints and, in addition, provide a positive boost for this type of construction.

Bilbo - Adozione del cuore
Era arrivato da poco al Rifugio della Lega del Cane sezione di Padova quando una mattina è stato trovato completamente paralizzato ai posteriori, è stato portato subito in Clinica dove dopo la risonanza è stato operato d'urgenza per un'ernia al disco. L'intervento è andato bene e Bilbo adesso è in stallo. Sta riprendendo l'uso dei posteriori, settimanalmente fa fisioterapia dalle meravigliose ragazze del Thermal Physiopet Riabilitazione Montegrotto e le prospettive di recupero sono molto positive! Le spese per la fisioterapia sono sostenute dal Rifugio della Lega del Cane sezione di Padova grazie alle donazioni dei soci. Bilbo è un incrocio di bassotto fulvo nato nel , è castrato e va d'accordo con tutti. È un cagnolino di taglia medio/piccola (12 kg) dolcissimo e intraprendente, ma soprattutto molto ubbidiente. È abituato a vivere in appartamento, non sporca e fa i bisogni fuori anche se deve aspettare tante ore. Se ne sta nella sua cuccia tranquillo in attesa di poter fare due passi sull'erba dove riesce a camminare meglio. Ama andare in auto ed essere grattato poiché da solo non riesce con le zampe posteriori. Cerca una famiglia consapevole. Verrà affidato previo incontro conoscitivo e visita di preaffido, nonché disponibilità degli adottanti a farsi affiancare durante il periodo di recupero.
