ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Sitchin, Zecharia, PUBLISHER: Harper, Why is it that our current twenty-first century A.D. is so similar to the twenty-first century B.C.? Is history destined to repeat itself? Will biblical prophecies come true, and if so, when? It has been more than three decades since Zecharia Sitchin's trailblazing book "The 12th Planet" brought to life the Sumerian civilization and its record of the Anunnaki--the extraterrestrials who fashioned man and gave mankind civilization and religion. In this new volume, Sitchin shows that the End is anchored in the events of the Beginning, and once you learn of this Beginning, it is possible to foretell the Future. In "The End of Days," a masterwork that required thirty years of additional research, Sitchin presents compelling new evidence that the Past is the Future--that mankind and its planet Earth are subject to a predetermined cyclical Celestial Time. In an age when religious fanaticism and a clash of civilizations raise the specter of a nuclear Armageddon, Zecharia Sitchin shatters perceptions and uses history to reveal what is to come at "The End of Days."
ISBN: , SKU: , PUBLISHER: Penguin Putnam Inc, A fascinating look at how games can help us learn, create, and innovate Once thought to be nothing more than diversions for children and nerds, games have become an integral part of everyday life. Educators are trying to make learning more fun by introducing games into the classroom while cutting-edge managers are doing the same in the workplace. Doctors, scientists, and entrepreneurs are deploying games to help solve some of the world's most pressing problems. But according to Adam Penenberg, it's not the games themselves that improve our lives, but rather smart game design and its impact on the brain that can lead us to become immersed in a task we find enjoyable. The individuals and institutions that have used games to achieve this effect are often rewarded with astounding results. Drawing on the latest brain science on attention and engagement plus his own firsthand reporting, Penenberg shows how organizations like Google, Microsoft, hospitals, and the military have used game design in bold new ways.
ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Fuchs, A. P., PUBLISHER: Coscom Entertainment, At the end of Time there was Armageddon; the Earth was unprepared. The forces of Heaven and Hell warred and, presiding over the battle, was the Ark of Light, the arbiter of Armageddon. Then, what was supposed to have been the end of History suddenly came to a halt when the Ark of Light vanished from its post. The armies of Light and Darkness faded from the Earth and Time went on. Aeons passed and what happened that day long ago faded into legend. It is now the year 134 of the Fifth Aeon. Peter Jones, a poet from the Broken City of Garathen, looks for a life outside the confines of his small city and its concealing forest ring. Late one night, a little girl named Catina comes into the city on a quest of her own: to find her grandfather and take him back to Grek, where a mysterious illness is claiming the lives of the townsfolk and of her parents. Together, Peter, Catina and her grandfather set out cross-country to rescue the little girl's parents before it's too late. Thus the journey begins. While traveling West, they meet up with Aiyesha Elnaa, a fugitive running from the Dembatstayr Army, a lethal force clearing the land in the name of Peace, paving the way for the Master's Second Coming. Together, they continue on their journey and pick up two more travelers along the way: Mr. Nibbetts, a furry Flistablare from the Tanturee Forest, and a dog, Belina. Away from the security of his Garathen home, Peter begins to have doubts about his belief in the Master. As his doubts grow and his heart yearns for peace, he begins seeing a man in a gray cloak, but every time he gets close to him, the man vanishes. As the man's hauntings grow more frequent and the mysterious illness that plaguesCatina's parents begins to take hold of Peter and his friends, they learn of the Ark of Light and the prophecy it will one day reappear. When death seems all but inevitable, a creature from the Purple Fog launches his attack on the group. Who is he? Who sent him and what does he want? As History once again draws to a close and the Ark of Light awakens from its hidden resting place, a new power rises from the Coast of Seryn, the Island of the Dead. Strange events are set in motion and the race for the Ark of Light begins, and the long postponed war looms once again. Author Biography: A.P. ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Gray, Alasdair, PUBLISHER: Canongate Books Ltd, The Ends of Our Tethers is the first work of fiction in seven years by Alasdair Gray. Wonderful and often very funny, this new collection reaffirms Gray as a master of the short story. In "No Bluebeard," a reclusive man, the veteran of three marriages, meets a disturbed and eccentric woman desperate to remain hidden from her family. In "Job's Skin Game," a man develops a skin condition in response to losing his two sons in the Twin Towers and his fortune in the dot-com meltdown. "Well-being" offers a politically charged dystopian vision of a future Britain as seen through the eyes of a once-revered writer. He is now homeless yet stubbornly refuses to move to a more hospitable country: "There are better ways of living than being happy but they require strength and sanity." Beautifully produced and illustrated throughout with Gray's distinctive drawings, The Ends of Our Tethers is vintage Gray-accessible, experimental, mischievous, wide-ranging, beautifully written, and wise.

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Carroll, Lewis, PUBLISHER: Penguin Books, Limited (UK), In , English author CHARLES LUTWIDGE DODGSON (), aka Lewis Carroll, wrote a fantastical adventure story for the young daughters of a friend. The adventures of Alice-named for one of the little girls to whom the book was dedicated-who journeys down a rabbit hole and into a whimsical underworld realm instantly struck a chord with the British public, and then with readers around the world. In , in reaction to the universal acclaim *Alice's Adventures in Wonderland* received, Dodgson published this sequel. Nothing is quite what it seems once Alice journeys through the looking-glass, and Dodgson's wit is infectious as he explores concepts of mirror imagery, time running backward, and strategies of chess-all wrapped up in the exploits of a spirited young girl who parries with the Red Queen, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, and other unlikely characters. In many ways, this sequel has had an even greater impact on today's pop culture than the first book. This unabridged replica edition features the original illustrations by English artist SIR JOHN TENNIEL (), and is a treasured addition to any library.
ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Bennett, Jackie / Grimshaw, John Michael / Ward, Bobby J., PUBLISHER: Firefly Books, The flowering plants in your garden, and their variety of color and form, are the result of hundreds of years of tradition, science, skill and intrepid exploration. They may be native plants carefully selected to provide larger blooms or a greater color range, exotic species with origins in far-distant lands, or cultivars which have been painstakingly bred to conform to an ideal of shape and form. The Gardener's Atlas explores the histories of many of the world's most popular cultivated plants and reveals how and where they grew in the wild. It relates extraordinary and uplifting tales of their discovery in some of the remotest regions on earth -- tales of determination and perseverance, of barter and exchange, and of international friendship struck up between enthusiastic horticulturists from the s onward. There are insights into how plants that are now simply decorative were once used for medicinal or cosmetic purposes, for food or ritual, and into how they earned their common or Latin names. This is a book which cannot fail to enrich your gardening experience.
ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Philipps, David, PUBLISHER: Palgrave MacMillan, They were once known by the famous moniker, "Band of Brothers." Now, 60 years later, the notorious army unit from Fort Carson, Colorado calls themselves the "Lethal Warriors," having seen the worst of the violence in Iraq. Many of its members are plagued by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and some, misdiagnosed or untreated since returning from war, embarked on drug-fuelled crime sprees, some of which resulted in murder. Here, David Philipps applies his piercing insight and relentless investigative skills not only to this particular unit, but to the broader issue of PTSD as it rages throughout the country. He highlights the inspiring story of General Mark Graham, a former commander at Fort Carson and one of the few officers who had the vision and guts to recognize PTSD as a growing problem with soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, and to do something about it. Graham has opened his doors to the community for help, speaking candidly about the issue and offering a potential lifeline to the soldiers, and a solution to this deadly problem.

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Matthews, John, PUBLISHER: Inner Traditions International, Restores Gawain of Camelot to his true role as the foremost representative and servant of the Goddess. - The full story of Gawain of Camelot that restores a lost piece of the great Arthurian tapestry. - Traces the historical trends that demoted Gawain from the foremost knight of the Round Table to a villain and womanizer. - The result of more than 20 years of research by one of the world's leading scholars of Arthurian mythology. Sir Gawain, the nephew of King Arthur, was once the most important knight at Arthur's court, a shining example of all that was best in chivalry. He even outranked the famous Lancelot. Yet as the popularity of the Arthurian romances grew, the character of Gawain became increasingly diminished in popular literature. John Matthews explores the phenomenon that influenced the recasting of Gawain from hero to womanizing villain, providing a scholarly context through which Gawain's role as the representative of the Goddess upon Earth--the real Green Knight of Camelot and Sovereignty's Champion--may be restored. In addition, the author presents a unique view of the mythology of Britain and its connections with the historical changes that took place over many hundreds of years in the religious and mystical traditions of the country.
ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Bachusky, Johnnie, PUBLISHER: Heritage House Publishing, The Red Coat Trail of southern Saskatchewan and southeastern Alberta runs near the route of the North West Mounted Police's famous March West. Today, this lonely highway passes through a windswept land of abandoned towns. Johnnie Bachusky takes readers back to the heyday of this region, when booming pioneer towns sprang up as settlers travelled west during the last great land rush. The Roaring Twenties brought bumper harvests but also bootleggers and bank robbers; fortunes were won and lost in raucous hotels and pool halls, and high-stakes poker games went on all night. The Great Depression devastated the area. Disease, drought, dust storms and grasshoppers took their toll. Some towns simply vanished; others now contain rows of boarded-up homes and businesses. But their history comes to life in these stories. From an account of a s bank robbery in Manyberries to the tales of a boisterous Govenlock rancher who hunted with Buffalo Bill Cody and Wild Bill Hickok, these are compelling portraits of lost towns and the memorable characters who once called them home.
ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Dean, John W., PUBLISHER: Thorndike Press, President Nixon's former counsel illuminates another presidency marked by scandal Warren G. Harding may be best known as America's worst president. Scandals plagued him: the Teapot Dome affair, corruption in the Veterans Bureau and the Justice Department, and the posthumous revelation of an extramarital affair. Raised in Marion, Ohio, Harding took hold of the small town's newspaper and turned it into a success. Showing a talent for local politics, he rose quickly to the U.S. Senate. His presidential campaign slogan, "America's present need is not heroics but healing, not nostrums but normalcy," gave voice to a public exhausted by the intense politics following World War I. Once elected, he pushed for legislation limiting the number of immigrants; set high tariffs to relieve the farm crisis after the war; persuaded Congress to adopt unified federal budget creation; and reduced income taxes and the national debt, before dying unexpectedly in . In this wise and compelling biography, John W. Dean--no stranger to controversy himself--recovers the truths and explodes the myths surrounding our twenty-ninth president's tarnished legacy.
ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Toibin, Colm, PUBLISHER: Penguin Books, The sea is slowly eating into the land and the hill with the old watchtower has completely disappeared. The nearest house has crumbled and fallen into the sea. It is Ireland in the late twentieth century. Eamon Redmond is a judge in the Irish High Court. Obsessed all his life by the letter and spirit of the law, he is just beginning to discover how painfully unconnected he is from other human beings. With effortless fluency, Colm Toibin reconstructs the history of Eamon's relationships--with his father, his first "girl," his wife, and the children who barely know him. He gives us a family as minutely realized as any of John McGahern's, and he writes about Eamon's affection for the landscape of his childhood on the east coast of Ireland with such skill that the land itself becomes a character. The result is a novel that ensnares us with its emotional intensity and dazzles with its crystalline prose. In The Heather Blazing, Colm Toibin displays once again the gifts that illuminated The South, a book described by Don DeLillo as "a grand achievement," and by John Banville as "a daring imaginative feat...a splendid first novel."

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Gulick, Bill, PUBLISHER: University Press of Colorado, Covering the desert sector of the river from Celilo Falls to Canada between and , the final volume of Roll On, Columbia, deals with the lives of Captain Lars Warren and his wife Daphne as they build a home at Wallula Gap just downstream from the mouth of the Snake River. With the coming of railroads, the nature of the Columbia as a free-flowing river changes as man attempts to control it by jetties at its tumultuous bar, by locks and canals at the cascades and Celilo Falls, and by dams providing power, navigation, irrigation, and flood control. These changes are not always welcomed by the Warren family, but because this is the watershed in which they have chosen to live, they must make the best of it. The climax of the novel, the massive flood of -- whose destructive crest cannot be controlled by the river's three existing dams -- gives the dam-builders the final argument they need to begin the era of engineering that eventually will bring the second largest watershed in the United States under man's control. By the time the process is completed fifty years later, the once free-flowing river will be impeded by 161 dams.
