Their early designs resulted in synths like the S110F above. The Synthesizer 110F is an upgraded S60-F, with dual analog VCO's and an updated look. It has a small but usable 37 note keyboard. Classic analog sawtooth, square, and triangle waveforms plus noise are on-board and can be mixed with external sounds run through the 110F's filters and envelopes. The oscillators can be de-tuned for duophonic textures or phatter leads and bass sounds. There's plenty of modulation ability and classic analog effects in the 110F to really liven up the sound. There's an LFO which can modulate the VCO and VCF and can trigger the EGs. The VCF resonant low pass filter is great too. There's also a VCA section with Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release controls and finally there's a Hi-Pass filter. There is also a portamento effect, a ring modulator, vibrato and sample-and-hold for those classic analog synth effects and tricks! Lots of pretty blinking lights, a sleek and straight-forward layout and very nice analog bass, lead and synth sounds are all a part of the Synthesizer 110F experience.

This manufacturing expertise has been applied to their new PM1 active studio monitor, a two-way system featuring a one-inch soft-dome tweeter and a 6.5-inch bass/mid-range driver, powered respectively by 45W and 75W discrete bipolar transistor amplifiers. The cabinets measure a compact 215 x 380 x 283mm, including the rear-panel heat sink, and two bass reflex ports are fitted through the front baffle. A discrete green LED set into the Fostex badge shows when the power is on. At 11kg each, these are not excessively heavy for active monitors, but they feel substantial and well built. Unusually, there's very little technical information available on the finer points of the driver design, though outwardly they appear to be fairly conventional and, despite their rather compact size, they have a frequency response stated as 50Hz-20kHz 2dB, with the LF and HF -10dB points at 38Hz and 23.5kHz respectively. The crossover type and frequency is not disclosed in the documentation, and there's no frequency-response graph, though we are told that the maximum short-term SPL is 105dB. This is a peak-handling figure, however, and is applicable only to the 80Hz-3kHz range, so I'd imagine a comfortable nominal maximum SPL would be between 85dB and 90dB in practice. While not making these speakers excessively loud, this figure should be more than adequate for sensible nearfield monitoring situations. Physically, the cosmetics of the cabinet design are very plain, with a slight radius to the baffle sides and no grilles. The drivers are mounted centrally and are recessed flush into the baffle, with a rubber-like trim ring around the bass/mid-range unit. Autofocus Autofocus is supported, with the following known limitations. Autofocus speed is very slow and inadequate for most moving subjects. The autofocus speed is unfit for professional use for sure, and it would disappoint most enthusiasts. Only Canon-branded lenses introduced in or after are officially supported. Autofocus may be disabled for older Canon lenses and most third-party lenses, including most Sigma, Tamron and Tokina lenses and all Contax N lenses modified by Conurus. On NEX camera bodies in camcorder form factor (e.g. FS series), autofocus may be available only in photo mode but not in movie capture mode. Continuous AF is not supported. DMF mode (direct manual focus) is not supported. For non-camcorder camera bodies (e.g. NEX-7), during movie capture, if the subject moves to a different distance, half-press the shutter release button to re-activate autofocus and lock onto the subject again. Since autofocus speed is slow, there may be visible disruption in the resulting footage. The first two autofocus attempts are used to calibrate the lens and as a result may not lock successfully on the target. Half-press the shutter release button again and autofocus will lock successfully. Autofocus may have difficultly locking onto subjects which are very close to the nearest focusing distance of the lens. Autofocus accuracy depends heavily on the working condition of the lens. Lenses with hidden problems which may not be apparent on Canon DSLRs will lead to inaccurate and unreliable autofocus on Sony NEX. Typical problems of this kind that we have seen include an unsmooth/erratic autofocus mechanism (e.g. getting stuck intermittently at a certain focusing distance), a faulty/worn-out distance encoder or other faulty/worn-out internal sensors.
