Where the River Flows: Annamoe Rectory

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Pettigrew, Vera, PUBLISHER: Anvil Books, To Annamoe rectory in in eastern Ireland's County Wicklow came Vera Pettigrew, her husband Stanley, and their baby daughter. This memoir about her years living in a remote part of Ireland as the rector's wife is entertaining and nostalgic. She records with a keen sense of humor and a sharp ear for dialogue the day-to-day activities of parish and family life, from fetes to festivals, from schools to scout camps. But her story also stretches out to wider shores: growing up in Northern Ireland, the first curacy in Newcastle, County Down; the start of married life in Clontarf in Dublin, and summers in Sligo and Connemara. Where the River Flows is an affectionate picture of the people and places in one of Ireland's many Protestant churches and parishes.

The Eagle River Valley

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Welch, Shirley / Eagle County Historical Society, PUBLISHER: Arcadia Publishing (SC), Starting as a trickle in the Rocky Mountains, the Eagle River emerges in a glacial valley, cuts through a spectacular gorge near Red Cliff, and then creates the broad flood plain of the Eagle River Valley. At Dotsero, the river joins the mighty Colorado River. As long as humans have settled along the river, they have depended on it for their livelihood, trapping beaver for hats, mining gold and silver, collecting water for locomotive engines and channeling it for crops and ranching, harvesting ice for food preservation, and, most recently, converting water into snow with modern machines. Today the Eagle River Valley is the backbone of two of the greatest ski areas in the world, Vail and Beaver Creek. Sparkling through the ancient riverbed, the Eagle River continues its course to this day, flowing through the same valley that drew pioneers here in the 19th century.

Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Austen, Jane, PUBLISHER: Indoeuropeanpublishing.com, Pride and Prejudice is a novel by Jane Austen. It was begun in , her second novel, but her first serious attempt at publication. She finished the original manuscript by in Steventon, Hampshire, where she lived with her parents and siblings in the town rectory. Austen originally called the story First Impressions, but it was never published under that title; instead, she made extensive revisions to the manuscript, then retitled and eventually published it as Pride and Prejudice. In renaming the novel, Austen may have had in mind the final chapter of Fanny Burney's Cecilia, itself called "Pride and Prejudice," where the phrase appears three times in block capitals. The story follows the main character Elizabeth Bennet as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education and marriage in the landed gentry society of early 19th century England. Elizabeth is the second eldest of five daughters of a country gentleman landed in the fictional town of Meryton in Hertfordshire, not far from London.

Corsarios de Levante

Corsarios de Levante

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Perez-Reverte, Arturo, PUBLISHER: Alfaguara, This long-awaited sixth installment of the best-selling series "Capitan Alatriste," which follows the escapades of Captain Diego Alatriste, is seen through the eyes of a fellow privateer who served with Alatriste in the galleys of Naples. It is a story of skirmishes, privateers, boarded ships, killings and sackings. A time where Spain was revered, feared and hated in the easterly seas; where the devil had no color, no name and no flag, and where the only thing needed to summon hell on earth (or sea for that matter) was a Spaniard and his sword. A time where men went about their tasks without meddling in government, philosophical or theological affairs. A time where men were soldiers.
