At the base of the instrument is a hideous carved gargoyle being 'throttled' by the gut joining the tailpiece to the body. This is a totally unique musical instrument. It would be suitable for the performer who wants an exceptional instrument to play, or the collector who appreciates the quality of its woodcarving, certainly equal of its genre to any from the medieval or later periods.
