HIGHLORD "when Aurora falls"

Dopo un album di debutto non certo eccezionale i piemontesi Highlord diedero alla luce nel questa piccola gemma di power metal, rimasta sconosciuta ai più a causa di una distribuzione non certo capillare, che merita di essere riscoperta. E' importante sottolineare che il cantante Vascé ha una voce molto diversa rispetto al suo successore negli album seguenti Andrea Marchisio, meno potente e più pacata ma non per questo meno espressiva e convincente. Il disco si apre con un'ottima intro d'atmosfera che sfocia nella dirompente cavalcata "...Don't Kill Me Again" classica opener molto potente con un buon lavoro di doppia cassa del batterista Luca e sorretta dal riffing aggressivo di Stefano, mentre le tastiere e la voce conferiscono il giusto tocco di melodia al pezzo. Si prosegue con "Frozen Heaven" sicuramente uno degli highlights del disco, un altro brano molto veloce ma più incentrato sul lato melodico che su quello aggressivo dove spiccano il bel ritornello e soprattutto i fantastici duelli di assoli tra chitarra e tastiera nella seconda parte del brano. Con "We Are Gods" il ritmo si fa più cadenzato e le tastiere coprono un ruolo predominante nel conferire alla canzone la giusta atmosfera. Subito poi si riparte con "All I Want" un ottimo brano veloce dove spiccano un ritornello veramente azzeccato e la lunga sezione centrale d'assoli, al termine della quale il tastierista ed il bassista creano un bellissimo intermezzo atmosferico. "Again" è invece la ballad del disco che, a differenza dei lenti "forzati" che si sentono su troppi dischi power, non risulta affatto stucchevole né noiosa grazie all'ottimo gusto per le melodie del gruppo. L'attacco di "Perpetual Fury" invece sembra essere uscito da un disco dei migliori Stratovarius; il brano è lungo e viaggia nuovamente ad alta velocità dove sono le tastiere a farla da padrone insieme all'egregio lavoro alla chitarra di Stefano.
