La "Danza degli Amorini", celebre dipinto di Francesco Albani, fece il giro d'Europa grazie alle acqueforti che ne furono tratte. Non pochi furono gli artisti che, nel secolo XVIII, si esercitarono a copiare l'opera di Albani. Uno di questi fu l'inglese John Opie (). Attivo nel campo della ritrattistica, della scena di genere e della pittura a soggetto storico, Opie rappresentò varie volte la figura del putto alato. Esemplari, a tale proposito, sono le opere "Caught napping", "A bewildered doctor checking the pulse of lovesick young woman" e "Aesculapius, Flora, Ceres and Cupid honouring the bust of Linnaeus". E' noto che l'artista fu anche pittore di miniature. Suo è questo dipinto su lamina eburnea, tratto dalla famosa "Danza degli Amorini" ed eseguito, presumibilmente, all'epoca del sodalizio con lo scrittore John Wolcot (). Diversamente dall'originale, Opie semplificò la composizione togliendo le due scene a margine (il rapimento di Proserpina e Venere che bacia Cupido). Firmata in basso a destra, l'opera è conservata in buone condizioni all'interno di una cornice non coeva. Dimensioni: 85x65 millimetri. Se la miniatura viene spedita, al prezzo d'acquisto bisogna aggiungere 10 euro di spese postali, che salgono a 15 euro se è richiesto il servizio di pagamento in contrassegno.
