Alcuni dei più celebri romanzi americani furono creati con macchine da scrivere svizzere. Ricordiamo innanzitutto la Hermes Baby, con cui John Steinbeck ed Ernest Hemingway scrissero pagine memorabili. Con una Hermes lavorava Jack Kerouac mentre William S. Burroughs e Philip K. Dick avevano una Hermes Rocket. Il marchio Hermes è legato alla Paillard S. A., fabbrica fondata nel nei pressi di Yverdon (canton Vaud). Quello delle macchine da scrivere portatili fu il ramo aziendale di maggior successo fra gli anni '30 e gli anni '70 del Novecento. I punti di forza delle Hermes erano l'affidabilità e la durevolezza. La Hermes Media, in particolare, era uno strumento robustissimo. Montata su scocca metallica e protetta da una custodia dello stesso metallo, poteva essere portata ovunque resistendo a urti e scossoni. L'esemplare qui proposto è una Hermes Media costruita nel (datazione accertata in base al numero di serie). Integra e ben conservata, completa di custodia e di pennelli di pulitura, la macchina funziona perfettamente. Difetti: la custodia presenta alcuni graffi e lievi erosioni. Misure (della custodia): 15 cm. di altezza, 31 cm. di larghezza e 34 cm. di profondità. Se la macchina da scrivere viene spedita, al prezzo d'acquisto bisogna aggiungere 15 euro di spese postali, che salgono a 20 euro se viene richiesto il servizio di pagamento in contrassegno. Il prezzo di vendita rimane invariato se la macchina è ritirata dall'acquirente a Varese, presso il venditore.
