Dick avevano una Hermes Rocket. Il marchio Hermes è legato alla Paillard S. A., fabbrica fondata nel nei pressi di Yverdon (canton Vaud). Quello delle macchine da scrivere portatili fu il ramo aziendale di maggior successo fra gli anni '30 e gli anni '70 del Novecento. I punti di forza delle Hermes erano l'affidabilità e la durevolezza. La Hermes Media, in particolare, era uno strumento robustissimo. Montata su scocca metallica e protetta da una custodia dello stesso metallo, poteva essere portata ovunque resistendo a urti e scossoni. L'esemplare qui proposto è una Hermes Media costruita nel (datazione accertata in base al numero di serie). Integra e ben conservata, completa di custodia e di pennelli di pulitura, la macchina funziona perfettamente. Difetti: la custodia presenta alcuni graffi e lievi erosioni. Gonzalez, PUBLISHER: Duke University Press, The provocative three-part project "Black Mirror/Espejo Negro" by the artist Pedro Lasch encompasses a museum installation, photographs of the installation, and this bilingual book, including many of the photos, the artist's statement, and critical commentaries. The project began as an installation commissioned by the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University to accompany the exhibition "El Greco to Velazquez: Art during the Reign of Philip III." In a gallery adjacent to the exhibit of Spanish Golden Age masterpieces, Lasch placed black rectangular mirrors on the walls, each with an image of a Spanish Renaissance painting behind it. Pre-Columbian stone and ceramic figures, chosen by Lasch from the museum's permanent collection of Meso-American art, stood on pedestals facing toward each mirror and away from visitors entering the room. Viewers were drawn into a meditation on colonialism and spectatorship when, on looking into the black mirrors, they saw the pre-Columbian figures, seventeenth and eighteenth-century Spanish priests and conquistadores, themselves, and the contemporary gallery environment. The book "Black Mirror/Espejo Negro" includes full-color reproductions of thirty-nine photographs of the installation, as well as the text that Lasch wrote to accompany it. In short essays, scholars reflect on Lasch's work in relation to current debates in art history and visual studies, race discourse, pre-Columbian studies, postcolonial theory, and de-colonial thought. This manufacturing expertise has been applied to their new PM1 active studio monitor, a two-way system featuring a one-inch soft-dome tweeter and a 6.5-inch bass/mid-range driver, powered respectively by 45W and 75W discrete bipolar transistor amplifiers. The cabinets measure a compact 215 x 380 x 283mm, including the rear-panel heat sink, and two bass reflex ports are fitted through the front baffle. A discrete green LED set into the Fostex badge shows when the power is on. At 11kg each, these are not excessively heavy for active monitors, but they feel substantial and well built. Unusually, there's very little technical information available on the finer points of the driver design, though outwardly they appear to be fairly conventional and, despite their rather compact size, they have a frequency response stated as 50Hz-20kHz 2dB, with the LF and HF -10dB points at 38Hz and 23.5kHz respectively. The crossover type and frequency is not disclosed in the documentation, and there's no frequency-response graph, though we are told that the maximum short-term SPL is 105dB. This is a peak-handling figure, however, and is applicable only to the 80Hz-3kHz range, so I'd imagine a comfortable nominal maximum SPL would be between 85dB and 90dB in practice. While not making these speakers excessively loud, this figure should be more than adequate for sensible nearfield monitoring situations. Physically, the cosmetics of the cabinet design are very plain, with a slight radius to the baffle sides and no grilles. The drivers are mounted centrally and are recessed flush into the baffle, with a rubber-like trim ring around the bass/mid-range unit.
