"This Death by Drowning "is a memoir with a difference--an artfully assembled collection of reminiscences, each having something to do with water. The book's epigraph, from Norman Maclean's "A River Runs Through It," proclaims, "I am haunted by waters." So--and in most rewarding ways--is William Kloefkorn. The first chapter recalls the time when, at age six, the author "came within one gulp of drowning" in a Kansas cow-pasture pond, only to be saved by his father. A later chapter recounts Kloefkorn's younger brother's near death by drowning a few years later; still another envisions the cycle of drought and torrential rains on his grandparents' Kansas farm. There are fanciful memories of the Loup and other Nebraska rivers, interlaced with Mark Twain's renderings of the Mississippi and John Neihardt's poetic descriptions of the Missouri. And there are stories of more recent times--a winter spent in a cabin on the Platte River, and an often amusing Caribbean cruise that Kloefkorn took with his wife. Throughout, Kloefkorn takes his memories for a walk, following each recollection into unexpected, fruitful byways. Prezzo per singolo vaso. Due graziosi vasi in pregiata porcellana danese, dipinti a mano sotto smalto, della famosa ditta consociata a Royal Copenhagen. Appartengono alla stessa serie identificata dal numero 210 incluso nel codice, che ne caratterizza la forma e le dimensioni. In questo caso si tratta di vasi rotondi, più panciuti nella parte bassa e con l'apertura in alto leggermente svasata, con dimensioni: altezza 17cm, apertura 7cm, diametro max 10cm. Il peso è appena sotto i 400 gr. L'altro numero incluso nel codice caratterizza invece il disegno, in questo caso si tratta di rami fioriti. Il titolo di quello di sinistra è "lily of the valley" e il codice è Bing . Il marchio lo fa risalire agli anni (particolarmente antico). Il secondo ha titolo "ramo di melo fiorito" e codice Bing . Anche questo ha marchio degli anni . Il colore, come si vede in foto, è un azzurrino tenue che dal basso verso l'alto sfuma delicatamente nel bianco. I vasi sono entrambi in perfette condizioni, privi di difetti e con smalto ben lucido. Anche l'interno è di un bianco splendente, senza macchie da uso. Importante infine sottolineare, per valutare la convenienza del prezzo, che entrambi sono "di prima scelta", come evidenziato anche dal marchio.
