Silent Covenants: Brown V. Board of Education and the

Fifty years later, despite its legal irrelevance and the racially separate and educationally ineffective state of public schooling for most black children, Brown is still viewed by many as the perfect precedent. Here, Derrick Bell shatters the shining image of this celebrated ruling. He notes that, despite the onerous burdens of segregation, many black schools functioned well and racial bigotry had not rendered blacks a damaged race. He maintains that, given what we now know about the pervasive nature of racism, the Court should have determined instead to rigorously enforce the "equal" component of the "separate but equal" standard. Racial policy, Bell maintains, is made through silent covenants--unspoken convergences of interest and involuntary sacrifices of rights--that ensure that policies conform to priorities set by policy-makers. Blacks and whites are the fortuitous winners or losers in these unspoken agreements. The experience with Brown, Bell urges, should teach us that meaningful progress in the quest for racial justice requires more than the assertion of harms. Strategies must recognize and utilize the interest-convergence factors that strongly influence racial policy decisions. CORSO PROPEDEUTICO DI ARTE DRAMMATICA
Il corso, della durata di due anni, prevede due incontri serali alla settimana di tre ore ciascuno, con frequenza obbligatoria da novembre a giugno. Il corso si propone di offrire agli allievi una preparazione tecnica ed artistica basilare e si rivolge solo a chi voglia intraprendere seriamente il mestiere dell'attore. I contenuti sono pensati e strutturati anche in previsione delle selezioni da parte delle Accademie riconosciute a livello nazionale. Il corso ha il pregio di contare su un corpo docente di tutto rilievo: professionisti provenienti dalle più importanti Accademie nazionali e internazionali, attivi nel panorama teatrale italiano. Coordinatore è il regista Carmelo Rifici, attualmente impegnato nel progetto Work in progress del Teatro Litta e vincitore del Premio della Critica nel e nel Materie di insegnamento: - dizione -analisi del testo e interpretazione -recitazione -studio del movimento -studio del corpo - improvvisazione Al secondo anno, alle suddette materie saranno affiancati seminari intensivi riguardanti nuove metodologie e tecniche della recitazione, condotti da professionisti del settore. L'accesso al corso, riservato a allievi di età compresa tra 17 e 30 anni, prevede nei mesi di settembre e ottobre, un colloquio attitudinale e un breve provino sulla lettura di un testo proposto dalla commissione esaminatrice o di un monologo a scelta del candidato. Durante il primo anno, gli allievi dovranno sostenere alcune prove (nei mesi di gennaio e giugno) sulle quali la commissione deciderà circa l'idoneità alla continuazione del corso.
