The Cooperative Solution: Toward a Just Economy

At the same time, there are signs that standard competitive 'free' markets are failing. Empirical evidence shows that cooperation works better than competition and that cooperatives succeed more often than standard corporations. Assumptions underlying the competitive system are that competition results in equity for all and that poverty can be eliminated through the market. These assumptions simply are not true. On the contrary, the rich get richer; the poor, poorer. Cooperatives, where each member holds one share and one vote, are more democratic than hierarchical corporations. Poverty is actually eliminated through a combination of microfinance and cooperation. Examples include Muhammed Yunus' Grameen Bank, Indonesia's People's Bank, and the cooperative adventure of Mondragon in Spain. These examples provide a vision of true globalization from below, a vision of a just and sustainable world. The 'how-to' is right here.

Fra i protagonisti, come regista e animatore, della rifondazione del teatro italiano negli anni Quaranta, è stato drammaturgo, consulente e traduttore per Luchino Visconti. Ha collaborato con Vittorio De Sica come aiuto regista e sceneggiatore di Ladri di Biciclette e Sciuscià . Alla ne degli anni Cinquanta ha fondato con la moglie Anne d'Arbeloff il Teatro Club, la prima e piÚ importante iniziativa in Italia per la scoperta e il dialogo con le culture teatrali internazionali. Saggista, traduttore e storico del teatro, Guerrieri ha suggerito inedite relazioni tra il mondo dei libri e quello delle scene. Improvvisamente, in tutto il mondo, milioni di credenti svaniscono apparentemente nel nulla, lasciando solo i propri abiti dietro di sÊ. Tra i "lasciati indietro" che hanno subito la perdita di uno dei propri cari vi sono Rayford Steele, pilota di Boeing 747, sua figlia Chloe ed il pastore Bruce Barnes, i quali comprendono che è avvenuto il Rapimento della Chiesa. Intanto, il giornalista Cameron "Buck" Williams, testimone oculare di un evento miracoloso, l'inspiegabile distruzione degli aerei russi che stavano attaccando lo Stato d'Israele, e passeggero dell'aereo pilotato da Steele nel momento del Rapimento, inizia a seguire le notizie riguardanti il giovane presidente rumeno Nicolae Carpathia, che in seguito alla crisi provocata dal rapimento viene eletto Segretario generale delle Nazioni Unite. Come primo atto del suo mandato, Carpathia stipula un trattato mondiale di pace tra le Nazioni Unite ed Israele, in cambio di un nuovo tipo di fertilizzante sintetico, detto "Formula Eden", inventato dal biologo israeliano Chaim Rosenzweig, capace di trasformare zone desertiche in coltivabili. Rayford, Chloe, Buck e Bruce, riconoscendo in questo evento l'inizio del periodo settennale della Tribolazione si uniscono in un gruppo di credenti post-rapimento che verrà chiamato Tribulation Force.
