In , Moraley ventured as an indentured servant from England to the "American Plantations," where he worked in various jobs, rambled about the countryside, and mingled with white and black bonds people, laborers, artisans, Indians, and other common folk. His account brims over with observations about the geography and climate, the flora and fauna, and the customs, politics, religions, superstitions, material conditions, and daily lives of the inhabitants of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. Of special interest are his comments about servants, slaves, and Native Americans--groups frequently ignored by early travelers. Moraley's experiences were similar to those of many other eighteenth-century European immigrants who sold themselves into servitude, but he is among only a handful of people at the bottom of society who left memoirs of their lives. Smart, sassy, and articulate, Moraley narrates a take of adventure designed primarily to entertain. At times a rogue, a drunkard, a liar, a vagabond, and a petty thief, he boasts that he could "rake with the best of them." But the autobiography has considerable historical value as well. It depicts the life of a down-and-out artisan whose fortunes, like so many other bound laborers, did not substantially improve. The reasons for the different career paths of such working people have been the subject of much scholarly debate, and these memoirs can more firmly ground that controversy in actual human experience. The substantial introduction by Klepp and Smith reconstructs Moraley's life, relates the autobiography to the literary developments of the era, compares the careers of Moraley and Franklin, and discusses the author's social, political, and religious worlds. It also identifies and leaves open to differing interpretations a host of issues and paradoxes about eighteenth-century life raised by Moraley's account.

CAPODANNO A VILLA FARINACCI
In occasione della notte di San Silvestro, lunedĂŹ 31 dicembre a partire dalle ore Villa Farinacci torna a essere il luogo della cittĂ dove lÂarte incontra lo svago con un grande evento gratuito, finanziato dal Municipio IV e realizzato da Roerso Mondo Associazione Culturale, al quale sono invitati a partecipare i cittadini di ogni etĂ . Il grande concerto di Capodanno presso Villa Farinacci incontra la tradizione e allo stesso tempo diventa contemporaneo in una travolgente festa popolare a base di musica dal vivo e cabaret, brindisi e spettacoli pirotecnici, Dj set e silent disco, per salutare tutti insieme il nuovo anno. La notte del 31 dicembre, la Villa vestirĂ i colori delle proiezioni luminose che ne animeranno le facciate, accendendola come un faro nella notte. Il suo parco ospiterĂ la grande festa condotta da Manuel dÂAmario, attore di cinema e di teatro, il quale allieterĂ la serata con la sua personalitĂ eclettica. Ad aprire la serata danzante, sarĂ Titti Smeriglio e Band che inaugura il suo tour italiano con un live pieno di energia e passione, dove si canta e si balla sulle note di Non So Dirti Di No, primo album ricco di sound anni '60 e '70, nato sulla scia del successo dell'EP dÂesordio che lÂha anche accreditata come songwriter per televisione e cinema. A seguire, la band di Alessandro Nosenzo, cantautore abruzzese e romano dÂadozione, le cui sonoritĂ uniscono il folk della sua regione dÂorigine alle musiche popolari dellÂEst Europa con influenze gipsy e jazz manouche, che lo hanno portato a condividere il palco con artisti rinomati quali BandabardĂČ, Africa unite, o a partecipare come ospite al Arianofolk Festival insieme a Daniele Silvestri. UnÂatmosfera festosa che grazie a queste sonoritĂ coinvolge il pubblico in una irrefrenabile voglia di ballare. Suoni, musiche e giochi di colore animeranno la serata preparando il pubblico ad accogliere il nuovo anno in festa. II° Edizione âSUONI E SAPORI DEL SALENTO E DI PUGLIAâ Giugno â Otranto Torna a Otranto la seconda edizione della rassegna enogastronomica SUONI E SAPORI DEL SALENTO, che in questa seconda edizione, viste le numerose richieste, estende l'invito alle aziende di tutta la Puglia divenendo cosĂŹ âSUONI E SAPORI DEL SALENTO E DI PUGLIAâ. Saranno quattro giorni alla scoperta delle eccellenze pugliesi nella splendida cornice della CittĂ dei Martiri. Un vero e proprio percorso enogastronomico e musicale con piĂč postazioni di musica live e unâattenta selezione delle migliori aziende di prodotti tipici pugliesi, birrifici artigianali e le eccellenze dei vini locali. Ad aprire lâevento di degustazioni, Ăš previsto un momento importante di incontro e dibattito sulle eccellenze di Puglia e lo sviluppo della nostra regione, un convegno di apertura all'interno della Sala Triangolare del Castello. Mentre, in collaborazione con lâosservatorio Astronomico - Parco Astronomico San Lorenzo, il 2 e il 4 Giugno sarĂ allestito uno spazio nella suggestiva location della Terrazza di Torre Matta dalle ore , in grado di ospitare tutti coloro che vorranno osservare le stelle e apprenderne la loro storia. Il 2 giugno, musica folk, a cura della âZagor Street Bandâ che dalle ore alle ore suonerĂ per tutte le strade principali della cittĂ otrantina, dalle , invece, saliranno sul palco principale con 15 elementi.
