Le foto ritraggono personalità del clero, delle istituzioni politiche e del mondo della cultura, ma immortalano anche la gente comune giunta in pellegrinaggio da ogni dove. La copertina è in cartone rivestito di tela blu ed è impreziosita, al piatto anteriore, da una placca di rame e smalti raffigurante il rosone posto sopra la quadrifora della Basilica Superiore.
