Brand: James Bisgood Instrument: REBEC Selling here is a truly magnificent hand carved treble rebec made by the English luthier James Bisgood. The rebec is an ancestor of the violin and was used throughout the medieval period to accompany singing. This rebec is carved from solid English walnut, with the back hand fluted into eleven sections. The pegbox is exquisitely carved with a winged dragon, complete with scales, a forked tail and a 'gollum type' creature adjoined to his rear end. At the base of the instrument is a hideous carved gargoyle being 'throttled' by the gut joining the tailpiece to the body. This is a totally unique musical instrument. It would be suitable for the performer who wants an exceptional instrument to play, or the collector who appreciates the quality of its woodcarving, certainly equal of its genre to any from the medieval or later periods.
