The pegbox is exquisitely carved with a winged dragon, complete with scales, a forked tail and a 'gollum type' creature adjoined to his rear end. At the base of the instrument is a hideous carved gargoyle being 'throttled' by the gut joining the tailpiece to the body. This is a totally unique musical instrument. It would be suitable for the performer who wants an exceptional instrument to play, or the collector who appreciates the quality of its woodcarving, certainly equal of its genre to any from the medieval or later periods. One Step at a Time: The Staged Development of Geologic

As is the case for other complex projects, repository programs should proceed in stages. "One Step at a Time focuses on a management approach called "adaptive staging" as a promising means to develop geologic repositories for high-level radioactive waste such as the proposed repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada. Adaptive staging is a learn-as-you-go process that enables project managers to continuously reevaluate and adjust the program in response to new knowledge and stakeholder input. Advice is given on how to implement staging during the construction, operation, closure, and post-closure phases of a repository program.

The collapse of the established political parties and the increasing prominence of the secessionist Northern League had public commentators debating whether Italy constituted a nation at all. It appeared that despite over 130 years as a unified state, Italy retained a weakly developed sense of nationhood. Yet if we assume modern Italy is essentially fraudulent, we will not understand why Italy remains intact at the end of the twentieth century, nor will we understand the unique kind of nation which the Italians have created for themselves. This new study proceeds with the working assumption that Italy is indeed a nation, albeit of a particular kind, and offers a detailed discussion of its historical development. It argues that the exigencies of state-formation were more important in the founding of the Kingdom of Italy than nationalism, and then argues that early failures to engineer an Italian national consciousness were due to the state's refusal to integrate local cultures into a consolidated national culture. Rather, a nation was gradually developed from within society, through the construction of a public sphere, through mass communications, migration movements, and mass consumerism.
