ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Bewley, Elizabeth L., PUBLISHER: Dog Ear Publishing, Killer Cure will change forever how you think about your health and health care. Leaving conventional wisdom in the dust, Killer Cure reveals startling and unforgettable insights: Why health care in America accidentally kills people each week -- even though every doctor and nurse you know is terrific Why health care's hidden assumptions about you are almost certain to damage your health -- and what you can do about it Why health care's focus on solving yesterday's problems may reduce life expectancy in the U.S. -- by as much as five years Why you might want to become CEO of your own health and health care -- and how to go about it The root cause of America's health care crisis is that health care is not about you. Health care is not designed to help you enjoy good health. It is designed to help doctors take action: write prescriptions, perform surgery, etc. That focus hurts you in two ways: First, those actions are likely to damage you nearly as often as they help you because of side effects, complications, and other problems with care delivery. For example, hospital ICUs (Intensive Care Units) have a remarkable number of characteristics in common with prison camps for terrorist suspects. People die needless deaths as a result. Second, the focus on actions the doctor takes crowds out actions you could take that would often get you better outcomes. For example, more than people a year get a foot or leg amputated instead of learning simple ways to prevent foot infections in the first place. To get better results, the health care system first needs to embrace a new purpose: to enable people to lead the lives they want. Three further changes are necessary: The first is a social revolution akin to freeing the slaves or granting women the right to vote. With this revolution, the health care system will no longer treat the people it serves as if they were second-class citizens whose intelligence, values, priorities, and needs can safely be ignored while others call the shots. The second is more realistic expectations about what health care can deliver. The third is management of health care as a process -- connecting the dots among actions that are uncoordinated today. Killer Cure provides a tool kit to help you safeguard your life until these changes take place. Before closing, the book makes surprising predictions concerning a future in which health care is about you. At the end of Killer Cure is a Readers' Discussion Guide. It is offered to aid you in thinking about and discussing both the book and your own health care experiences.
ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Landman, Janet, PUBLISHER: Oxford University Press, USA, "We are a people who do not want to keep much of the past in our heads," Lillian Hellman once wrote. "It is considered unhealthy in America to remember mistakes, neurotic to think about them, psychotic to dwell upon them." Yet who in their lifetime has never regretted a lost love, a missed opportunity, a path not taken? Indeed, regret is perhaps a universal experience, but while poets and novelists have long explored its complexities, very little has been written from a scholarly perspective that examines this emotion. Now, in Regret, Janet Landman takes a lively and perceptive look at this multifaceted phenomenon. Much as Anthony Storr did in his best-selling Solitude, Landman here provides an insightful anatomy of an emotion, ranging far and wide to illuminate the nature of regret--what it is, how it changes you, how you experience it. She draws on a breathtaking variety of sources, ranging from psychology, economics, philosophy, and anthropology, to classic works of literature. We learn what people regret most--lack of education comes first, followed by employment, marriage, and children--and how regret differs from other emotions, such as remorse, disappointment, sadness, or guilt. In one of the most fascinating sections, Landman examines four "worldviews" of regret--the Romantic, the Tragic, the Comic, and the Ironic--as exemplified in four major novels: Great Expectations, Notes From Underground, The Ambassadors, and Mrs. Dalloway. In Dostoevsky, for instance, regret is a "poison of unfulfilled desires turned inward," destructive, incurable. Though it is common to regard regret as painful and destructive--being "stuck in the past" or "ruled by emotions"--Landman reveals some surprising benefits. At best regret is a dynamic changing process--one can transcend regret, and thus transform the self. In Anne Tyler's Breathing Lessons, for example, we witness how the characters Ira and Maggie Moran find themselves ready to move forward in their relationship only after they have accepted life's limits and losses without resignation or despair. "It is a good thing," Landman writes, "that the human mind is not limited by what actually exists, but works in such a way that it draws comparisons between what happens and what might have happened. It is in this ability to imagine alternatives, and the capacity to care about the particularities of experience, that we accomplish the task of becoming fully human." For anyone who has ever questioned, experienced, or avoided regret, here is a provocative and challenging look at this enduring emotion.

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Cantelon, James, PUBLISHER: John Wiley & Sons, THE VICTIMS OF THE AIDS PANDEMIC IN AFRICA ARE FAR MORE NUMEROUS THAN THE DEAD AND DYING. MILLIONS OF ORPHANS AND WIDOWS ARE TRYING TO SURVIVE IN EXTREME POVERTY AND SOCIAL OPRESSION. JAMES CANTELON, A CANADIAN PASTOR, HAS CHALLENGED CHURCHES IN AFRICA-AND IN CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES-TO UNITE IN A COMMON CAUSE TO BRING RELIEF TO SUFFERING OF INTOLERABLE MAGNITUDE. When God Stood Up is the story of a remarkable journey that affirms God's presence in the most ravaged places on Earth. Millions of our fellow human beings are depending on just to be "God's hand extended." Read about their stories and be humbled. "The book puts HIV/AIDS into terrifying perspective. Jim and Kathy Cantelon are the face of God's love to so many who are so desperate." --Deborah Grey, MP (ret'd). "As Jim narrates his accelerated response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, it reminds one of the image G.K. Chesterton captured of St. Francis: always running.' Within a matter of weeks, the author catapults out of Vancouver to the Durban colloquium, to hospitals and church events across the sub-Sahara-you sometimes look for a page to catch your breath Come to think of it, with the awesome destruction of human life described here, what could be mode appropriate? When God Stood Up carries a sense of that which it issues a call for: breathless haste." --John & Ruth Kerr, Trans-Africa Theological College, Kitwe, Zambia "Posturing God as standing up sends readers a signal: beware. Coddled for years by an image of a benign and permissive deity, Cantelon gives a yank on our leash of grace. Human tragedy, he reminds us, isn't just unfortunate-it's the stuff of life that strikes at the very heart of faith, a fait he asserts that should neither be smug nor comfortable. This God of justice makes it clear that those who call themselves by his name are to do no less than embrace justice." --Brian Stiller, President, Tyndale University & Seminary, Toronto "This is more than the story of the calling of a man to a god-sized mission. It is an informative, unfolding drama of perhaps the most critical issue of our time-AIDS in Africa. As Jim has cast and recast his vision, people all over the world have been caught and reeled in to unexpected roles, in response to the pandemic. My husband and I are in that number. Be warned as you read, you too may be stirred to action " --Moira Brown, Co-host, 100 Huntley Street, CTS-TV

ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Card, Orson Scott, PUBLISHER: Tor Books, This boxed set contains "Ender's Game," "Speaker for the Dead," "Xenocide," and "Children of the Mind." "Ender's Game" Winner of the Hugo and Nebula Awards In order to develop a secure defense against a hostile alien race's next attack, government agencies breed child geniuses and train them as soldiers. A brilliant young boy, Andrew "Ender" Wiggin lives with his kind but distant parents, his sadistic brother Peter, and the person he loves more than anyone else, his sister Valentine. Peter and Valentine were candidates for the soldier-training program but didn't make the cut--young Ender is the Wiggin drafted to the orbiting Battle School for rigorous military training. Ender's skills make him a leader in school and respected in the Battle Room, where children play at mock battles in zero gravity. Yet growing up in an artificial community of young soldiers Ender suffers greatly from isolation, rivalry from his peers, pressure from the adult teachers, and an unsettling fear of the alien invaders. His psychological battles include loneliness, fear that he is becoming like the cruel brother he remembers, and fanning the flames of devotion to his beloved sister. Is Ender the general Earth needs? But Ender is not the only result of the genetic experiments. The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Ender's two older siblings are every bit as unusual as he is, but in very different ways. Between the three of them lie the abilities to remake a world. If, that is, the world survives. "Speaker for the Dead" In the aftermath of his terrible war, Ender Wiggin disappeared, and a powerful voice arose: The Speaker for the Dead, who told the true story of the Bugger War. Now, long years later, a second alien race has been discovered, but again the aliens' ways are strange and frightening...again, humans die. And it is only the Speaker for the Dead, who is also Ender Wiggin the Xenocide, who has the courage to confront the mystery...and the truth. "Xenocide" The war for survival of the planet Lusitania will be fought in the hearts of a child named Gloriously Bright. On Lusitania, Ender found a world where humans and Pequeninos and the Hive Queen could all live together; where three very different intelligent species could find common ground at last. Or so he thought. Lusitania also harbors the descolada, a virus that kills all humans it infects, but which the Pequeninos require in order to become adults. The Starways Congress so fears the effects of the descolada, should it escape from Lusitania, that they have ordered the destruction of the entire planet, and all who live there. The Fleet is on its way, a second xenocide seems inevitable. "Children of the Mind" The planet Lusitania is home to three sentient species: the Pequeninos; a larg
ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Mahoney, Brian H. / Mahoney, James J., PUBLISHER: Trafford Publishing, The late James Mahoney went overseas in the spring of as the leader of one of the four bomb squadrons in a B-24 bomb group (the original 492nd) which endured extraordinary losses for 89 days of operation before being disbanded. The enduring mystery of why such an exceptionally well qualified and prepared group suffered so singularly is one of many significant themes he addresses in his 52 vignettes. Mahoney was reassigned to a bomb group with much better luck (the 467th), and finished the war as their Deputy Commander. As both a 'man among men' and a recognized natural leader, he was positioned to note character and ability, and took it as his charge to develop both of these in the course of administering to the technical and demanding business of a combat organization comprising souls. Later in life, wanting to make sense of what he experienced and to record the terrific sacrifice of his peers, he distilled and organized his memories. Overcoming his natural reticence to show his hand emotionally, and fearful that grisly accounts might register as sensational horror instead of sobering lesson, he labored carefully to build for his readers a rich context for his 'war stories'. These memoirs take the reader through the methodology and equipment of aviation and strategic bombing in the era before stand-off weaponry, when hundreds of planes at a time, each with ten-man crews, flew in unpressurized planes through flak and fighter filled skies for hours at a time at 40 degrees below zero, to bomb targets in Hitler-occupied Europe. He introduces the reader to his acquaintances and friends, commanders and charges - a range of memorable rascals, unforgettableheroes, and ordinary mortals showing their true mettle and courage under dire circumstances. Jim Mahoney's account of his 13 months in combat is an engaging mix of timeless morals and enduring humor. The big themes are laid out with common sense, while the practical joke, the stroke of genius, or personal quirk are offered as clear windows to the host of characters and their relationships. These certainly capture the fact and flavor of the daylight bombing campaign over northern Europe and make a contribution to the historical record, but they also transcend that specific time and place, drawing the readers in any era into human drama, played out in all of its variety in the pressure-cooker of wartime. The son's contribution has been to document some of the more unusual aspects of his father's account, so that these can be received as more than just precious memoir - as contributions to the historical record. This has entailed many interviews, travel to remnants of his father's Rackheath and North Pickenham bases in East Anglia, and contemplation of the horrible effectiveness of aerial bombardment on several of the Mighty Eighth Air Force's 'ground zeros' in Germany. Additionally, the son supplies the reader with a variety of material designed to make the dated techn
ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Rifkin, Glenn / Hill, Sam, PUBLISHER: HarperBusiness, How did the Grateful Dead use its fanatical following to build a $100 million band that still thrives today, despite the fact that the band split up in ? How did upstart Boston Beer Company--makers of Sam Adams--revolutionize the beer industry and prevail over lumbering incumbent Anheuser-Busch without an advertising budget? And how did lams create the premium pet food market and grow from $16 million to $600 million in sales in just fifteen years, while charging twice the price of competitor Ralston-Purina? Through radical marketing. In the tradition of such bestsellers as "Thriving on Chaos" and "Built to Last, Radical Marketing" is a fresh, provocative approach to marketing and strategy that has proven hugely successful for organizations ranging from Harley-Davidson to Harvard Business School. In this book, Sam Hill, cofounder of Helios Consulting and an oft-quotes expert on marketing, and Glenn Rifkin, a veteran business writer for the "New York Times," identify the unconventional strategies that have enabled ten innovative companies to usurp valuable market share from traditional industry leaders. Just what do these organizations have in common? Each is in tune emotionally with their customer base--allowing them to glean superior marketing insight without spending millions of dollars on advertising or employing huge marketing departments. Each is focused more on the big picture--growth and expansion--than on short term profits. And, despite their current success, each started out with little more than a passion for their products, forcing them to do things more cheaply and creatively. How do these commonalties equal success? In "Radical Marketing," you willlearn how: by forging long-term strategic alliances and seeding the globe with enthusiastic missionaries, the NBA has become the most powerful global sports brand in the world, elevating ticket sales and TV rights to $2 billion; Harley-Davidson helped spur its regeneration by starting a club of owners--and, in so doing, re-established itself as an enduring brand, a darling of Wall Street, and nothing less than an American icon of freedom and individuality; little-known EMC became the dominant player in the computer storage market, eclipsing industry leader IBM--by aggressively courting IBM' s customer base and creating a community of users around EMC' s products; Snap-on Tools owns 60 percent market share and became a nearly $2 billion company, selling tools door-to-door to its core customer base of over one million auto mechanics; Providian Financial, whose CEO lacked any formal marketing training and expertise, cracked new markets and won an army of new customers without using focus groups or any traditional advertising; Harvard Business School created the market for graduate business schools and established itself as the gold standard of its industry not by resting on the laurels of the auspicious Harvar
Multieffetto rack per chitarra / preamp boss gx700 racchiude in un unico rack tutti gli effetti della serie boss molto caldo e versatile prezzo 200 euro trattabili scheda tecnica boss gx700 guitar effects processor/preamp published in sos june printer-friendly version • noise gate: with user control of threshold setting. • compressor: with variable attack and release characteristics, plus control over sustain and tone. in common with all the other effects blocks, this also has a level parameter. • wah: this classic effect is familiar to guitarists everywhere, and can be recreated quite convincingly with the gx700, either under lfo or pedal control. the resonance of the wah effect can be varied, as can the frequency range over which the effect sweeps. • distortion: i suspect this section is based around the concepts used in the boss analogue pedals. the choices available include vintage od, turbo od, blues, distortion, turbo distortion, metal and fuzz. in addition to an adjustable drive level, the distortion settings also have a basic 2-band bass/treble equaliser. • preamp: this is where cosm modelling comes into play, because here you can select from several amplifier characteristics, including jc120, clean twin, match drive, big lead, ms (i), ms (ii), ms (i+ii), sldn lead and metal . the available controls include the usual bass, middle, treble and presence, as well as the volume/master volume method of setting the amount of amp distortion, and a 'bright' switch. a gain parameter is also included, which affects the distortion amount. • loop: this isn't an effect at all, but rather a means of switching in an external effect or processor. the loop function connects via the rear panel jacks, and has adjustments for both send and return levels, which is a sensible inclusion. • 3-band eq: despite the fact that the overdrive section and the preamplifier both have tone controls, there's also a 3-band equaliser with a fully parametric mid section. • speaker simulator: this again offers several choices: small, middle, jc-120, built-in 1-4, big stack 1-2, ms stack 1-2 and metal stack. there are also three possible virtual mic settings, for close miking and more distant miking, and separate level controls are provided for the mic level and the direct level. • noise suppressor: this comes at the end of the amplifier chain, but before the effects. however, because the effects can be connected in any order, it can be used elsewhere if you have a reason for doing so. personally, i'd be inclined to use it after the modulation effects (for anything that doesn't involve level modulation, such as panning or vibrato), but before any delay or reverb effects. as far as the user parameters go, these are really down to threshold and release time, though you can also choose to key the gate from either the noise reduction block's own input or from the guitar input jack.
ISBN: , SKU: , AUTHOR: Cagan, Joanna / Mause de, Neil / de Mause, Neil, PUBLISHER: Common Courage Press, Are you a sports fan distraught over seeing your home team move to another city? Or a happy sports fan whose city has just lured that team to your home turf with a brand new stadium? Or maybe you don't follow sports, but as a taxpayer are decrying cutbacks in school funding and other services. Whoever you are, state and local officials have thrown you a financial curve ball. While President Reagan made famous the false and chiding comment about "welfare queens" who ride around in Cadillacs, Field of Schemes introduces you to some real welfare kings -- who not only prefer BMWs, thank you, but also know the meaning of fun: -- A millionaire pizza baron wants more corporate luxury seating than his historic old ballpark provides, so he demands a new stadium at taxpayer expense, saying the old one is falling down. A group of grass-roots activists reveal that his engineering reports are faked, and that it would be far cheaper to renovate the old ballpark -- but the city and state go ahead with the project anyway. -- A used-car salesman turned baseba11 team owner promises to pay for a new stadium out of his own pocket, if the state government just agrees to move a highway to clear the land. Several backroom deals later, the state is paying to move the highway and raising a quarter-billion dollars towards the stadium costs, -- and the team owner is getting his stadium scott-free. -- The billionaire co-founder of Microsoft wants to buy a football team, but only if the state will build him a new stadium first. So he pays the state $4 million to hold an emergency referendum -- then spends millions more in advertising to make sure he wins. In exchange, he gets over $400 million in statetax money to build his team's new home. -- When an economically depressed city is faced with losing its football team, it scrambles to allocate $220 million for a new, state-of-the-art stadium. The next day, the city school system announces that it plans to lay off up to 160 teachers and eliminate interscholastic athletics. -- A Sunbelt town builds a new arena at public expense in order to lure expansion basketball and hockey franchises to the region. Just nine years later, the city is forced to build two new arenas, one for each sport, to keep the teams from bolting town. Total cost: almost $400 million, including $50 million for the soon-to-be-abandoned first arena. From Seattle Sea Hawks owner Paul Allen of Microsoft to New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, from Tom Monaghan of Domino's Pizza who destroyed Tiger Stadium to the building of Camden Yards, the stories are all here in a uniquely accessible journalistic style that brings you up close and personal to the moguls -- to the activists protecting your wallet. You'll be gripped by the behind-the scenes threats and political machinations in this play-by-play draining of billions of dollars from the public treasury. Tacuinum sanitatis in medicina con Commentario in perfette condizioni. Un vol. di fac-simile di 34,7 x 24,7 cm., 216 pp. con 205 tav. miniate a tutta pagina, rileg. in pieno cuoio. Salerno Editrice Roma - The Tacuinum sanitatis in medicina (â€Overview of medicine in tabular formâ€) is among the most beautifully and richly decorated manuscripts in the Austrian National Library. This lavishly pictured handbook of medicine was conceived for a lay public, in particular for a lady of the upper aristocracy or of a rich patrician family who was able to afford, and read, such a costly â€reference work†on household management as well as on topics of health and cure. This type of book goes back to an Arab source written by the physician Ibn Botlan under the title of taqwim es-sihha. The Arab art and practice of healing decisively influenced occidental curing methods and enjoyed a great reputation. The Latin translation, which made the codex accessible to the educated of the medieval western world, was widely known from the large number of surviving manuscripts. Although at first the famous work was only comprised of synoptic tables without any illustration, it was later richly furnished with pictures, starting from the 14th century, and the text was resumed in captions inserted below each individual image. The Tacuinum presented here is among the oldest and undoubtedly the finest examples of its kind, displaying in 206 coloured full-page miniatures all that the 11th century â€" when the original was written â€" considered important with regard to human health and well-being. A testimony to famous oriental curing Tacuinum is an Arab word which remained untranslated but was given a Latin ending. As the work was translated from Arabic into Latin and had spread throughout Italy, the term tacuinum was integrated into the Italian language. In Italian, the term tacuino today still means notebook. The then highly celebrated physician Elbochasim de baldach (Ibn Botlan) wrote the Tacuinum in the 11th century, among several other medical works, and acquired great fame. In the 13th century, this work consisting of synoptic tables without illustrations was probably translated into Latin at the court of Manfred of Sicily, which made it a long-lasting influence to western medicine. A sumptuous monument to book illumination The codex is not only important for physicians and pharmacists interested in history but also because of its illustration with over 200 miniatures, and as an object of extensive study for the bibliophile public and researchers alike. In addition, its illustrations display an evocative image of old Italian culture as well as many aspects of daily life, thus constituting a rich source for experts in cultural history. The Tacuinum must have been commissioned and made in Verona towards the end of the 14th century, judging from the coat of arms of the Cerruti family on fol. 3v. It is the common work of two painters in a surprisingly naturalistic style. They chose very strong colours which lend the miniatures enchanting freshness and vivacity. A medical picture book The 206 full-page miniatures show numerous plants and animals, drugs and food, as well as winds, seasons and other environmental phenomena. The book describes their effect on the human organism according to classical medicine tuition. A text below each picture describes both the benefits and shortfalls of the object depicted. The Tacuinum thus constitutes a medical picture book derived from the classical herbals tradition. The combination of pictures and relatively extensive explanatory text gives rise to a new type of book, which in terms of contents is closely related to Arab manuscripts, while its formal concept betrays the old western tradition. The particularity of the illustrations resides in the fact that the individual objects are not represented alone, but, as in the text, are centred on the human being. Man is shown dealing with certain plants, animals and other things. Based on the love of detail from everyday life, the naturalistic genre scenes with their rich stock of utensils demonstrate the life style and the living conditions of citizens in a late medieval Italian city. In addition to its great importance for the history of civilisation, the Tacuinum is fascinating contemporary readers as it provides an opportunity to compare modern natural cures and healthy living practices with those used nearly 600 years ago.

Intonator Encompassing a heritage of more than 20 years of delivering professional tools to the pro audio industry, TC Electronic proudly presents a high end vocal processing tool. Dedicated to the professional vocal recording engineer, the Intonator is aimed at reducing tedious engineering time spent on doing vocal re-takes. Not only does it provide you with the ultimate solution to vocal pitch correction, but it offers various valuable processing tools as well, including a De-esser, and a special Adaptive LoCut filter designed specifically for vocal processing. Quality Tools For Quality Engineering Tonal integrity is a must when dealing with delicate human vocals. The Intonator preserves the artist's personal touch by allowing vibrato, initial intonation and correction limited to individual notes. Utmost care has been taken in the software development to ensure that all fine adjustments applied to the incoming signal are being processed in a subtle, yet highly effective manner! Transparency Based on TC's world-renowned DARCâ,,¢3 chip technology (incorporating 96kHz internal processing and true 24 bit resolution), the Intonator provides you with an ultra-transparent signal path. It features fully integrated AES/EBU, S/PDIF, Tos-link and ADAT digital I/O's, and is 96kHz, 88.2kHz, 48kHz and 44.1kHz compatible on both digital and analog I/O's. Coherence Apart from the clear advantages of reducing the time spent on doing vocal re-takes, the Intonator also brings back coherence into the performance. Instead of cutting and pasting bits and phrases, with the loss of coherence as an obvious result, you now have a professional tool for processing and correcting your vocals in real-time. Two Signal Setups The Intonator also makes you capable of configuring the signal path in two different ways. In Normal mode the ADIOS (Analog Dual I/O's) configuration enables you to make simultaneous recordings of processed and unprocessed vocals, making comparisons a breeze (see fig. A). Digital signals, from your digital multitrack recorder for instance, can be configured the same way. In Dual mode you have the option of pitch-correcting the signal in one channel while using the dynamics, De-esser and LoCut, on the signal in the other channel (see fig. B). Being On Top You can choose to correct a single note simply by using the unique "Do-not-process-anything-but-this-note" function achieved via an internal custom scale feature, or type in your personal scale. A Pitch window allows you to specify when a note will be considered out of tune, whereas the Amount control limits the level of Pitch correction added to the audio. The Audio-to-MIDI conversion allows you to keep track of the incoming pitch history and/or correction history, giving you the advantages of being on top of things throughout the entire recording session. The Intonator features full MIDI automation making time based pitch shifting a simple operation. Use your keyboard for real-time manual pitch correction simply by hitting the notes to be processed. Dithering The use of dithering is very important when interfacing digitally between audio equipment. When resolution is changed from higher to lower, dithering is necessary to minimize distortion. In the Intonator you have the user friendly TPDF Dithering. The Output resolution of the Intonator is 24 bit, when the receiver of the Intonator signal has a lower resolution, Output Dither must be applied to equal the resolution of the receiver. Premium Converters When converting from analog to digital or vice versa, you should always try to use the full dynamic range of your converters. Even though the converters in the Intonator are 24 bit, analog gain may be applied before the AD's and after the DA's to make full use of them. The analog signal-path is balanced and can carry professional levels. Applications With the Intonator, you can establish a completely digital signal-path for vocal editing and correction. When tracking, the unit's fine A to D converters may be utilized to get high quality digital signals directly to Multitrack, ADAT, ProTools etc. Audio-to-MIDI With a simple setup you can monitor and edit your vocals externally. Just track the incoming pitch history to your sequencer, add the necessary correction and play back the pitch correction to the Intonator Keyboard The keyboard gives you instant access to changing the Root note of the current scale or the notes allowed to be corrected. Simultaneously the keyboard also indicates the incoming note, making it possible to recognize the note about to be processed. Display The Display shows you the current Root note and Scale. While processing you can see both the incoming signal and the amount of correction added to the source, creating a visual confirmation of the process taking place. Window, Attack and Amount These three knobs allow you to individualize the processing in detail. The Window knob determines how close to a particular note the source should be in order to be corrected. The Attack knob conducts the response-time before the correction sets in. This will help preserve the artist's personal touch by e.g. allowing vibrato. The Amount knob sets the amount of correction added to the signal. Manual Pitch Use the Manual Pitch control to add pitch correction by hand. The wheel can also be remote controlled by your keyboard modulation wheel or even provide in-sync changes when locked to a sequencer. The De-esser uses a relative threshold technique. This means that the actual threshold is always set according to the average level of the source signal. Consequently, the De-esser always adapts to the incoming signal and maintains the same threshold to the average level regardless of the Input signal. Adaptive Locut The Adaptive LoCut is a pitch controlled LoCut Filter. Instead of cutting off frequencies under a predetermined value, the Adaptive LoCut filter controls the cut off frequencies dynamically in accordance with the incoming signal. This ensures a perfect LoCut that never removes too much low end.

Simply put, Anthem Room Correction quickly "corrects" the effects that reflective surfaces such as walls, floors and ceilings have on the sound radiating from a loudspeaker. Removing the effects of these obstacles allows your audio equipment to achieve a more natural sound in any room, as close to the lab standard as possible. On a more complex level, ARC is a proprietary digital signal processing software that works with a specially-engineered calibration microphone and your PC to quickly and easily optimize audio for your unique listening space. Anthem engineers developed the ARC system while researching how to replicate the audio-lab standard of performance in non-lab environments. This groundbreaking research was conducted in conjunction with the National Research Council of Canada, the Canadian government's research and technology organization. Anthem engineers realized that real world listening experiences had little in common with the controlled environment of the audio lab. That's because even the best loudspeakers are affected by room anomalies like furniture. These obstacles cause standing waves, resonances, and reflections that can color the sound you hear. Imagine the sound waves coming from your speakers as ripples on a water surface. That makes it easy for you to understand how the ripples of sound bounce off any obstruction they encounter. You can immediately see the benefit of removing the obstacles. ARC digitally compares a room's acoustic signature to that of the lab standard. It measures the response of each speaker relative to the listening area. Then it uses advanced algorithms to eliminate the negative effects of the obstacles in the room, adjusting response and correcting phase effects. When ARC removes the obstacles, what's left is the lab standard performance. Limitless music. App-controlled convenience. Wireless connectivity.
