Using Wharton as a case study, Hoeller maintains that the ongoing argument about the value of American sentimental fiction could benefit by seriously considering sentimental aesthetics. It then considers the return of overseas-educated Chinese architects and foreign influences on Chinese architecture, four architectural orientations toward tradition and modernity in the s and s, and the controversy over the use of "big roofs" and other sinicizing aspects of Chinese architecture in the s. The book then moves to the hard economic conditions of the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, when architecture was almost abandoned, and the beginning of reform and opening up to the outside world in the late s and s. Included in this third edition are more historic pictures along with pictures of the weapons used by the 517th PRCT. There are quotes from General Seitz, Colonel Boyle, Major Fraser, Merle Traver, and John Anderson from the 517th reunion in Washington, D.C., . Many historical facts from the beginning to the end are included with much information cited from Paratrooper Odyssey, Battling Buzzards, and many other references. This book is not an account of what Bud remembered, rather letters written on a specific day with documented facts of what happened on that day between . These letters are often poignant with sincere thoughts and feelings of a combat paratrooper in the middle of the most horrific battles of World War II.
