Different schools of thought emerged: some anticipated the growth of a cosmopolitaneconomic order, others believed in a brutal imperialism necessary for an expanding capitalism, still others saw evil precapitalist forces at work. In The Liberal Ideal and the Demons of Empire, noted historian Bernard Semmel traces the evolution of the ideas about imperialism and discusses four major schools of thought: the classical economists, the social theorists, the national economists, and the Marxists. From Adam Smith to Lenin, the subject of colonialism--and then imperialism--remained controversial. Although classical economists offered visions of a prosperous world economy based on free trade, and liberal idealists argued that rational self-interest would eliminate aggressive mercantilism and wars of conquest, such "utopian" ideals proved elusive. Even defenders of capitalism noted contradictions between the harsh realities of the emerging industrial system and the optimistic economic theories that attempted to describe it. In the end the critics--including liberal sociologists, national economists, and Marxists--would win the day by defining imperialism in terms of historic demons: feudal aristocrats, medieval usurers, and evil empires. These ideas, Semmel concludes, became props of the liberal, socialist, and fascist ideologies of our time. Singer 215 g11 del perfettamente funzionante! ANCORA CON LE ISTRUZIONI IN CELOFAN ORIGINALE! (INTROVABBILE!) Darrell Royal, a former All-America quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners and the head coach at Mississippi State, accepted a four-year contract in and started the Husky football program on the road to recovery. Royal's tenure was brief. After the season ended, Royal resigned to take his dream job at the University of Texas where he had a very successful career which included three national championships. Briggs then hired 29-year old Jim Owens, a teammate of Royal and an All-America end. He had been a top assistant under Bear Bryant at Kentucky and Texas A&M. Moreno Il ventaglio, da strumento essenziale per soddisfare esigenze primarie di utilità quotidiana quali rinfrescare, scacciare insetti, attizzare il fuoco, si è andato trasformando in prezioso gioiello che ha segnato lo stile dell'abbigliamento femminile interpretando il modo di vivere e l'idea di femminilità delle varie epoche attraverso forme e decori straordinari. Inizialmente esso era costituito da semplici elementi naturali: foglie di palma, rami intrecciati, piume di struzzo o di pavone di grandi dimensioni, per divenire poi una realizzazione fantasiosa ed infine un'opera d'arte. Nel corso del tempo si è appropriato di valenze e significati simbolici rappresentativi della regalità, della religione, del potere, del magico. Le sue origini risalgono alla Cina intorno al VII secolo a.C.: giunge a Roma attraverso il mondo greco nel V secolo a.C. Successivamente come "flabello" entra a far parte del cerimoniale papale, con lo stesso significato di regalità e di protezione, sopravvivendo sino al Concilio Vaticano II del quando viene eliminato dalle celebrazioni da papa Paolo VI. In Italia è utilizzato come accessorio femminile di piccole dimensioni già nel Duecento, anche se si diffonde a partire dal Quattrocento. Nel Cinquecento diventa complemento indispensabile dell'abbigliamento femminile, segno di raffinatezza e distinzione. Gli esemplari tipici dell'epoca, di piume o a banderuola di stoffa o di paglia intrecciata, spesso decorati da pietre preziose, sono documentati nei dipinti di Tiziano, del Lotto, del Veronese ed altri artisti. Verso la metà del XVI secolo compaiono anche i ventagli pieghevoli e quelli brisèe d'invenzione giapponese, in Oriente il ventaglio è presente sia nelle famiglie nobili che fra i contadini, utilizzato sia dagli uomini che dalle donne, mentre in Occidente rimane accessorio prettamente femminile dell'alta società. Nel Seicento diventa un'opera d'arte: le pagine e le stecche dipinte o intagliate da celebri pittori sono adatte a diffondere immagini significative i cui soggetti preferiti s'ispirano alla mitologia classica, all'epica omerica, alle Metamorfosi di Ovidio, al Vecchio e Nuovo Testamento, alla storia, ad avvenimenti politici, feste, nozze reali, vedute di città, scene di vita quotidiana ed altre più leziose. L'epoca d'oro del ventaglio in Europa è il Settecento, periodo in cui viene largamente usato nei diversi momenti della giornata e pertanto si richiedono decorazioni appropriate che gli artisi sanno rendere interpretando il gusto vezzoso delle dame. Con la fine del secolo gli abiti diventano più comodi e disinvolti ed il ventaglio si riduce di dimensioni; si conclude così anche il suo periodo artistico. Nel XIX secolo solo eccezionalmente si trovano esemplari d'arte, mentre diffusi e singolari risultano quelli di pizzo ad ago e a tombolo o di stoffe ricamate. Nel XX secolo si preferiscono i ventagli semplici per il giorno e più eleganti per la sera; esso sopravvive come oggetto di pregio nelle serate di gala degli Anni Venti poichè il ritmo di vita, la moda e la presenza di nuove tecnologie d'aerazione lo rendono superfluo ed ingombrante. Si affermano così quelli reclamistici che, nati intorno al , si diffondono agli inizi del Novecento per poi man mano decadere e ritrovarlo talvolta anche ai nostri giorni.
