Carlotta, la protagonista, incontra questi quattro ragazzi su di un autobus ed incuriosita rivolge loro poche domande semplici guardandoli negli occhi e scopre con stupore che quei ragazzi vengono dall'Afghanistan e che sono giunti in Italia a piedi dopo cinque mesi e cinquemila chilometri di marcia. Carlotta da loro appuntamento per la mattina seguente ma ne ritrova solo uno, Akmed. Questo è l'inizio di un'emozionante storia umana, una storia inaspettata a volte feroce ed a volte quasi comica.
